Exact factors
An inch is exactly 2.54 centimeters, a foot is exactly 0.3048 meters and an acre is exactly 43,560 square feet. Converting cubic yards to tons is different, because it depends on the density of the material, so the tool states which density it uses and your supplier's figure may differ.
Common mistakes
- Rounding early. Round only the final answer.
- Using nominal lumber sizes. Actual sizes are smaller.
- Treating tons and yards as equal. Density decides the conversion.
